Silly Sleeper

Jeremiah has never slept well in his room. In fact he's not a great sleeper in general. He's just recently stopped coming into our room every night and curling up on the floor to sleep. He hauls his pillow and water bottle in there and if he forgets to drag his covers behind him he drags them off me while I'm sleeping. When he does stay in his bed he likes to sleep backwards. (Hey, I'm ok with this if it keeps him in his bed.) When he has to go to bed he'll often lay in his bed from 8 to 10. It's not that he's not tired--he doesn't take naps--he just wants someone to be there when he sleeps. If I snuggle up next to him he'll fall asleep in about 15-30 minutes. But I only do that if I feel like he really needs to be asleep. Here is his latest sleeping habit since we've been encouraging him to try and sleep in his room and fall asleep at a reasonable time too.

We found him like this one night and just laughed. He dumped out all his stuffed animals and used the bucket for his bed. It cracked me up. I really think he likes the feel of someone (or obviously now something) around him or near him. He snuggles his blankie tight and on his face. I have to pull it down because I worry he won't be able to breath. Whatever the reason for having a hard time sleeping, if this helps him, he can sleep in a bucket.

How funny! Hey, whatever works! Benjamin has gotten into the habit of reading an enormous stack of books every night before he lets us turn off the light for him to go to sleep. So he goes to sleep way too late every night too. I think these phases are kind of sweet, but that's only because I know they'll grow out of them so fast!

I didn't like sleeping in beds either growing up, so I totally can relate to Jeremiah on this!
