I enjoyed watching and listening to President Obama's inauguaration speech. One thing I have always liked about Obama is his attempt to bring people together despite differences. I listened to what our President had to say about many topics and wish him a very successful presidency.
After his speech I listened to a few commentators then went on with my day. Later that day and the next I would try to tune in to hear more about Obama's speech. What I found on my internet and many TV stations was about Michelle Obama's dress, what the girls were wearing, how much these things cost, Aretha's hat, dancing, and other things that dealt mostly with fashion and what I call "celebrity-ism". One of our TV stations talked about the Obama's gloves, especially designed for them by J. Crew.
Admittedly I was very disappointed by the sensationalism of fashion during this event. To me, the crux of this event was the speech. Let's talk about that, focus on how these things are to be accomplished. Let's talk about advisors, cabinet members, etc. Instead I got a bunch of "celebrity-ism". *Sigh*. Perhaps most of society is more concerned about who made the Obama's gloves than the content of his speech. I hope not.

It feels to me like they're the next Kennedy's. And as far as I can remember, he didn't do much before he was killed. Hopefully they'll be remembered for more then just their fashion!
I agree. There's been a TON of hype around their Fashion choices for EVERY event they've been involved in. I even saw a magazine at the hair salon yesterday that had both Michelle and Barack Obama posing like "models", all done up and everything. It seemed so weird to me. I don't think it's going to go away. Everyone is looking and watching every detail that they do.
Yeah, and did you hear about the new Malia/Sasha dolls hitting stores soon? Seriously, that is going overboard I think. Oh well. At least I can take comfort in the fact that as legislation is passed I'll also get to know what shoes the President is wearing, who made his tie, etc. Because you know that's what I'm interested in hearing about when a new bill is passed. (:
