so who hasn't experienced a "murphy's law day?" you know, the day when if anything can go wrong, will. well i'm convinced that murphy's law has a sub category entitled mother's law or perhaps parent's law since dads do a lot of parenting....i've just yet to see this type of day happen to my husband.
in mother's law anything that will make your life as a parent more hectic or time consuming will happen. it can range from anything like finding a new tube of toothpaste squeezed all over the bathroom to trying to run the barf bowl to your sick child and racing back to the next to help them go potty only to be late for both. mother's law loves things to happen like just finishing scrubbing the bathroom so it's nice and shiny and then someone comes not a minute later to use the bathroom instead of the still dirty one down the hall. or renting a rug doctor to clean away the winter dirt from the carpet only to have your child spit their juice not once, but twice on the floor. and of course, you've already returned the carpet cleaner.
mother's law is not respectful of sleep hours. these crisi can occur throughout the night. it adds to the experience. eventually mother's law is known for causing a day when mom bursts into tears or bursts into laughter as she reflects at how funny it seems when you look back on it.
my mother's law moment of the day started yesterday as i spent a good portion of the day stripping sheets, washing them and remaking beds. then i was awakened by my son who had been sick in his bed, so the bed stripping began again and will continue today since the only other place to put him was in my bed and i just can't sleep on sheets i feel are germy. so you see how this works. jeremiah couldn't get sick the previous night when i was going to wash sheets that day anyway. has to happen when they're all nice and clean.
what is amazing about mother's law is that it doesn't cause you to love your babies any less. in fact, the bond often grows stronger as you serve them constantly. at least it is true with me. in fact, i think i'd be missing something if these things didn't happen. oh, it doesn't mean i don't get frazzled, overwhelmed, or walk around looking like death warmed over, but rather my love for them grows and strengthens each day i have them and no amount of glitter strewn all over the place or neat stacks of folded laundry being knocked over will change that.
"What? Me spit juice on the floor? Just look
at this face, would I do that?"
"Mischief maker? No way!"

"Mothers law" days stink, don't they? I have a lot of those it seems like. Can't we just have a day that's completely OPPOSITE sometime. A day when everything is EASY and goes RIGHT??!! (maybe when all the kids are grown and out of the house. Until then . . .)
-this is a great way to communicate-I love it!!!!!!
glad to see I am not the only one that has a black cloud over my head sometimes! It is much more bearable knowing we can all relate to "Mothers Law"
Hey you! Miss you out here in KC, I'll be in town in July, but hopefully sooner.
