rock chalk jawhawks

ok, so admittedly we like basketball around here. college basketball (or younger) that is. for the men's tournament it really was march mad!ness. at least the final 4 games. no doubt CBS relished these exciting games as most of the tournament games were not close.

with tarheel blue and jayhawk pride running deep in the veins of loved family members, i thought it would probably be the best game of the tournament. and what a game of madness it was. the jayhawks up by 28 with one reporter calling the game. then watching the tarheels pull within 4, only to see the jayhawks wake up again to win by about 20. what a game. i was rather neutral, pulling for kansas because they are big 12, but pulling for nc as they were picked to win it all in my brackets, and at the same time pulling for them both to go down somehow because surely a tiger fan could not root for either.

of course in the championship game, we decided to support our son and his beloved rock chalk jayhawks and the big 12. we turned the tv off when with 2 minutes left they were down by 9. of course we all know what happened. some how kansas pulls it within 3 to have chalmers chuck up a 3 pointer at the buzzer to tie the game. then the jayhawks dominated in overtime winning it all.

what i thought was perhaps the classiest thing i saw was tar heel coach roy williams sporting a jayhawk sticker on his shirt in the championship game. if there was any resentment he abandoned the big 12 for the acc it dissipated when i saw that. i thought it was a classy move.

now that the mad!ness is over i am left with my own grumblings about the lack of tigers in the tournament. and left with a son still ever devoted to the rock chalk jayhawks. at one time during the nc/kansas game jeremiah asked who the white team was. "the tarheels." i was holding him and he scrunched up his face, shook his arms and said, "i don't like the tarheels." he loves his jayhawks. it is not always easy for this tiger mom.

and so below i've included a video clip i've titled, "Is This MY Son?"
